Ayesha is a warm and compassionate person who strives to bring a gentle presence to her sessions. She recognizes counselling can be overwhelming and works to create safety while working through the difficult and uncomfortable events and emotional experiences clients bring to session. She also knows the value in working through the uncomfortable which is what drives her in this work.
In sessions with Ayesha, you won’t have to go through it alone. She strives to be a present and supportive presence, providing insight, perspective, and tools as you move to-wards healing the mind, body, and spirit. Ayesha has had her own string of challenges, that has allowed her to deeply understand the impact stress can have on one’s mental and physical wellness. She understands how it feels to watch as the things you strive for become further instead of closer despite trying so hard to reach them, feeling burnt out and unable to do more, dealing with the highs and lows of our energy and mood, and not knowing who you are through it all. She has attended counselling as a client and knows how challenging it is to process through all the emotions and experiences, and how changing the way we interact with others can be scary but also empowering. Counselling is not just a single aspect of her life, but instead her way of understanding the world and moving through life meaningfully. She is passionate about providing the same support, care, attention, and compassion to her clients that she received when she needed it most. She knows it’s not easy, but it’s worthwhile to move through the past in order to enjoy the present and create a worthwhile future.
Ayesha has extensive experience working with many different types of traumas. From single-incidence traumas such as car accidents or violence from strangers to traumas a result of gender-based violence. She has worked at a stopping the violence program counselling women processing their history of abuse and violence, and has previously worked at transition homes roles supporting women impacted by histories of gender-based violence and colonialism. Ayesha is passionate about working with all clients who have experienced trauma, supporting them to reconnect to the parts of themselves that feel lost in those experiences. Ayesha also has experience working with clients with mental illness presentations including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and personality disorders; clients curious about relating more compassionately to self and have a strong inner critic; clients with identity and self-esteem concerns; and clients wanting support with taking the next step forward – whatever that may look like. Her experi-ences have provided her knowledge and expertise in understanding the vast degrees of human suffering and mental blocks, and how the mind-body connection can impact one’s ability to be present and healthy.
An important underpinning of Ayesha’s approach to counselling is to hold in perspective the role capitalistic, patriarchal, and colonial systems have played in perpetrating human suffering at individual and global levels. And now, she wants to be part of the solution. Supporting clients to move towards healing and better health.
